Magnolia Town. A central hub of business for the country of Fiore, and a frequent haunt for people like Lucas. A diplomat, he considered himself to be, but some would disagree. Some would say he was just the Magic Council's dog, a drone that did the dirty work of the higher ups. Even though Lucas didn't like that, it wasn't really something that he could deny. So whenever someone would call him something like that, he'd turn the other way and ignore it. He was an Ainsworth after all, so he had to keep up his facade, his image of being a gentleman. But today was one of the good days. It was his day off. Generally, on his days off, Lucas enjoyed brisk walks around Era, but something else had caught his attention this time around. He had heard from a tourist that there was a flying beast spotted around the Kardia Cathedral. This intrigued Lucas, and he made plans to travel to Magnolia at that very moment.

And here he was.

He was standing outside the gates of Kardia Cathedral, the majestic building towering over him much like how Goliath towered over David. However, similar to David, Lucas was not fazed. He was no stranger to beautiful products of architecture, being a resident of Era, one of Fiore's greatest cities and home to the Magic Council, the number one authority in the world when it came to all things magic. He gave the building a quick scan, taking note of the gargoyles that rested at the very peak of the building. He couldn't help but notice how ugly and out of place they were. ''How distasteful,'' he commented, as he strolled into the building. The first thing that caught his eye was that there was barely anyone there. Perhaps they had been warded off because of the flying beast? However, from the corner of his eye, Lucas could spot an old couple worshiping in front of an altar. Deciding that he didn't want to bother them, he headed towards the common room.

Much like the other room he had just been in, the common room was also quite empty. It was sort of a double edged sword though. On one hand, there was nobody around to occupy any seats and Lucas could have his own pick of where he wanted to sit. On the other hand, there was nobody around he could talk to. Sighing, he dropped into a chair and began to think. A gargoyle was a winged beast, certainly, so perhaps that was the thing that was plaguing the cathedral? Boring, Lucas thought. He had never seen a live gargoyle before, but they didn't really interest him either. When he first heard winged beast, the first thing he thought of wasn't a gargoyle, it was of a dragon, the majestic beast that used to rule the skies.

''Another dead end, huh?" Lucas said warily, as he rested his head on his shoulders. Things hadn't been going well at work, and now it looks like he won't be seeing a dragon either. ''Honestly," he whispered under his breath. ''Sometimes life is too damn complicated,"

Apollo was coming to the cathedral to have a look around, even though he has seen its interior many times, he is still fascinated by its beauty and design. As he sat in one of the chairs he was thinking about the winged beast that he had heard so much about, as he was thinking he noticed that someone else was there. He saw a man dressed finely and standing firmly. As he got a better look at him he saw that he was an Ainsworth. Apollo walked towards him to have a conversation.

"Hey, what's an Ainsworth doing in the cathedral?" he asked with a curious smile on his face.

Lucas entered into a deep thought, wondering about what it is that he should do next. For a split moment, he contemplated getting up and leaving the cathedral, heading home to Era and just settling down for the day. That would seem like the best choice. Magnolia was a nice place, that much was obvious and not even a guy like Lucas could deny that, but it wasn't home. Era was his home. He rarely ever got days off, days to himself, and now that he finally got one, he was spending it in a place like Magnolia? He was an idiot for doing that. He thought back to his family. His father was an even bigger workaholic than he was and probably would not have appreciated Lucas disturbing him. His mother, on the other hand, had long since past away, and it had been a while since he had visited her grave. That's probably where he would have been, no, that was where he should have been.

There was his ailing grandfather as well. The doctors had been doing whatever they could to make sure he continued to live as long as possible, but Lucas knew the truth. That man was far beyond saving, but he didn't really mind. In his youth, he was much like Lucas' own father, a workaholic. He paid little attention to anybody, and even now in his later years, he still wanted to work. At the very least, Lucas admired his grandfather's spirit and dedication, but as a grandfather, he was much less than adequate. He hadn't cared much for Lucas either. The last time Lucas went to visit him, the old man had completely forgotten about him, thinking he was some sort of nurse who had come to deliver him his dinner. Even so, that man was his grandfather, and he had an obligation to go see him. As these thoughts resounded around Lucas' head, he heard someone approach him. The man greeted him like an old friend, and even mentioned his surname.

"Hey, what's an Ainsworth doing in the cathedral?"

Lucas wanted to say something like 'who the hell are you?' to the man, but that was not the Ainsworth way. The Ainsworth way was to be polite, to be courteous to everyone. Lucas hated the Ainsworth way. He inspected the man that was standing before him. He was a pretty youthful looking guy, almost childlike. Perhaps going to church was something the kids was interesting in these days? Or perhaps this man was a lot older than he appeared, the latter probably being the more likely of the two. Lucas smiled politely. ''I heard some rumours about this place, that's all,'' Lucas greeted. ''Why don't you sit down, I'm Lucas,'' he introduced himself, as he invited the man to sit.

Apollo cheerfully sat beside him. As he sat down Lucas began to shift a little towards him. Apollo noticed this but still held a friendly smile on his face. Suddenly he remembered that Lucas said something about rumours surrounding this place.

He wanted to ask him if the rumours he was talking about have any connections to the winged beast rumours but he was concerned that it could lead to some bad consequences, but regardless he asked him.

"Do these rumours have anything related to the Winged Beast rumour?" He asked with a slight bit of concern on his face. Lucas looked a little surprised. Apollo thought that he was on to something but since it's a rumour a lot of other people should know about by now.

As he finished asking his question he began to think a little bit more about the rumour. First he began to think about the beast's appearance, stone winged creature came to his mind. "A gargoyle perhaps?" he thought to himself. "Or more like a human using magic to make himself fly." he thought again.

Lucas leaned in closer after he heard the man mention the 'winged beast' rumour. That was certainly reason why Lucas was at Kardia Cathedral. Well, in hindsight, Lucas shouldn't have been surprised that this boy would assume that his reason for being here was to see the beast. After all, it was a rumour that had spread throughout the city. It's had a negative effect on the cathedral as well, Lucas noted, as there was very few people around when he had arrived. Perhaps the person speaking to him right now was another brave, or stupid soul, that was looking for the beast?

"What do you know about the winged monster?" he asked.

Apollo looked up towards the ceiling and began to recall some of the details that the tourists have said about the beast. "Well, I don't know much myself but I've heard some people say that the beast might be some ancient monster or something crazy like that. What I think that the monster might be a human using magic for his or her own purposes." replied Apollo.

Apollo found this rumour intriguing since it has concerned a member of the Ainsworth family. He decided to go and investigate this on his own. So Apollo stood up and decided to leave. "Well, it's been nice talking to you Lucas. I have some matters to attend to." Apollo said as he was walking with his hands in his pockets.

Lucas' heart jumped slightly when the man said that the winged beast could have been an 'ancient monster' or something along those lines. Last he heard, the dragons were pretty ancient. But, if the man was talking about dragons, he probably would have mentioned dragons rather than say ancient monsters. Lucas let out a bored sigh. What this man was telling him wasn't anything new. He had heard it all before. The most common details were that the monster was huge, bigger than the average human, but not much bigger. The other one was that he had wings and could fly, and despite his humanoid shape, he didn't even come close to resembling a person. Before Lucas could say anything, the man had gotten up and taken his leave. The aristocrat mumbled his goodbyes as the man walked away, leaving Lucas by himself, still deep in taught. After a couple of minutes of just sitting there, he sighed and got up. It was time for him to go as well. Disappointed by not finding a single result, Lucas left the building, not bothering to look back at the majestic cathedral.

The beast's eyes opened, his red orbs glowing as bright as the sun in the sky. Raphael hated the sun, which was strange, considering where he came from, it was hot all year around. He let out a loud yawn, a yawn to him, but to others, it probably sounded like the howl of a lone wolf or the roar of a fierce lion. Raphael tried his best to be quiet, after all, since the sun was out, that meant it was still morning. He wondered why he woke up so early, he was a warrior of the night, so he only moved at night. In the mornings, he would stay hidden, waiting for when the sun would go down, so that he could come out. He hadn't been as careful as he thought he was had though, as several humans actually spotted him. He had made quite a name for himself as the beast that haunted the cathedral. It made Raphael grin, it made him happy to know that he had a reputation that struck fear into the hearts of humans.

At first, he entertained the thought. He would pop up at night time when two lovers were walking back from their date. He would scare them, never hurt them, before flying away again. He wanted to hurt them, of course, but it wasn't time. Not yet. The beast flapped out his wings, as he got up from his sleeping position. He looked around, the sun was shining over the town. It would be way too easy for someone to spot him there. Raphael decided that he'd go back to sleep, there was nothing for him now. People rarely came to Kardia Cathedral anymore, in fear that they might run into him. Just as he was about to lie down again, he smelled it. Walking over to the edge of the roof, Raphael looked down and could see a human walking away.

"It's been so long since a human dared set foot in Kardia," Raphael rasped, licking his lips as he did so. "Fools. Just wait. Kardia will soon be mine once more," he added, as he slunk back into the shadows.
